    Great video but what about weight shift for striking the ball when on the ground ( irons, woods, hybrids). This method looks great when ball is on a tee. When low point is ahead of the ball surely one needs to start the initial move with a slight bump to the left THEN think about rotation ? I really need to work this sequence out as my fault is falling forward.

    Even with some serious tendonitis in both wrists, your drills really helped me stopped the shanking and left pull shots with my wedges. One of the worst things about shanking is the negative thought that you will shank. I practice in my backyard with the almost golf ball and hit 80 to 120 foot shots. The almost golf ball goes 1/3 the distance of a real ball but a wonderful training shot ball. Thanks again Giles and that head cover under the arm pit during the swing is a super tip.☺Sincerely, Bill M., Uncasville, CT

    What about pushing up and back with the left or lead leg to generate hip turn and speed? Realize it can be difficult for older players like me (turn 83 today) but still seems to make sense to try without falling into the error of jumping violently. I think you may have recommended it yourself in another video. Also its important not to let the left arm collapse and bend on the backswing, which brings the hands and grip in closer to the ears, throws everything out of sequence, creates a weak slappy, wristy swing that will send the ball left into the woods every time.

    How does the Calloway Supersoft compare? It is much more durable than the Chromesofts I have hit. I have not used the Tour softs to see about them.

  • @alexchoi2060
    @alexchoi2060 День назад

    Ballnamic suggested Chrome Soft X last year for me, which helped me for distance., but the cover was not durable and scuffed easily (not just from cart paths or trees). Just got a shipment of Chrome Tour X (the replacement) and early results suggest it has better durability (and I had one round of 77 with it, although a few stinkers in the high 80s as well). Question: does it make any sense to keep the long irons when playing a really windy course, or is it better to have a 7 wood/4 hybrid for dispersion purposes.

    • @Gilesgillgolf
      @Gilesgillgolf День назад

      Thanks for the ball info. Yes because slower speed golfers still won’t hit the hoods crazy high so I would still play them in windy conditions

    All five tips for short hitters Giles were great! As a senior, I now consider myself a "short hitter!" Since entering that category, I have gone to two layer golf balls and do have Srixon soft feel and Callaway soft feel in my bag! I do adhere to all of your 5 tips. Of these, I think the biggest challenge is to "hit the center of the clubface" every time. Well Done Giles! Always learning and validating from your tips.

    👍👍 Two thumbs up! ❤😂 This is a great drill but swinging without any ulnar-radial deviation is a symptom of an underlying problem and until the person doing it understands the root cause on a conscious level they will revert back to doing it. I know a guy like that. He will waggle the club ideally in his pre-shot routine then in the swing tighten his grip on the club with his fingers which locks up the wrists. A trick I learned for getting fingers to hold the club securely without any muscle contraction in the forearm is to always establish the overlapping grip with shaft held vertically with elbows bent. The PGA Manual of Instruction recommends this and Martin Hall teaches and coined the term EDPU (elbows down - palms up) to describe how to do it. Start EDPU 🤷🏼‍♂️then rotate hands into palms together ‘ praying ‘ position 🙏🏼 then insert club handle. The hands are very ‘neutral’ at this point because this method works brilliantly to put the ulna and radius of both forearms in the MIDDLE OF THEIR RANGE OF ROTATION! Why it that brilliant? It is what will make the folding of the trail arm elbow down in the backswing and lead arm elbow down in the finish mirror images of each other because of how it causes pronation and supination of the wrists max out when performing the ‘waiter holding tray’ action in both directions. When gripped with EDPU and the arms are lowered you will observe and feel the forearms both rotating inward and the forearms will begin to feel tight. That tightness isn’t contraction of the muscles it is STRETCHING but it has the same effect on finger pressure, giving them a more secure purchase on the club WITHOUT LOCKING UP THE WRISTS, solving the problem you address in this video with the drill. The final action you will see Hogan and Tiger Woods and most tour pros do in videos if watched closely is the press both hands downward LIGHTLY at the ball to pull all the slack out of the arms, anticipating the way the swing force will do it in the swing. This is where you will really feel the forearms twist tight like steel cables and your club head move out 2-5mm from where it was sitting behind the ball with slack arms. This move helps with alignment of the club face to ball and holding onto the club without any contraction of the forearms at any point in the swing. It helps eliminate the dreaded ‘shank’ and should cure the problem addressed by the drill here which like all “HOW TO” drills is a bit like putting a bandage over a bullet wound without finding and removing the bullet😂 There is an interesting nervous system reason this drill works. There are two separate nerve branches controlling the thumb and fingers of the hand. One controls thumb, index, middle and half of the third ‘ring’ finger and the second the other half of third finger and pinkie. So if you consciously relax pressure one finger on a nerve branch the others will relax and the opposite branch will react to grip a bit tighter. The two nerve branches sharing control the ‘ring’ finger is why some people can easily do the split finger “Star Wars” salute \\ // keeping third and pinkie fingers together and others (like me) can’t, depending on which nerve branch dominates in controlling the third ‘ring’ finger. One of Tommy Armour Sr’s golf tips for controlling the club with the hands was to always keep light pressure on your pinkie fingers in the grip because if you relax them, which noobs tend to do at the top of the backswing, the ring finger will also relax and the club can slip in the hands.

    I don’t like internal focus BUT I tend to stand up and I notice it because my lead shoulder almost gets in the way of my line of sight of the ball. When I take a rehearsal swing focusing on my lead shoulder going down to start, I can then swing towards my target repeating that feel. Great video
